Although you don’t currently own a plot of land, there are other ways you can make an impact. Your apartment complex may be interested in transforming part of their property. We can help you with how to get them interested. You could also help by propagating plants or planting seeds right in your apartment or on your deck/patio. These can be used to help people looking for ways to get started for free. Or, they can be used during community projects that get underway. We’d love to talk to you about it. Good question! There are a lot of great organizations out there, even locally. The Urban Rewild Project has a different mission and scope that bridges a lot of those organizations together. Some of them are focused on gardening, small areas of transformation, or sustainable farming. We plan to collaborate with them to create a network and have a greater impact! I understand this concern. Many garden vegetables actually do fine in shaded areas. The best way to manage this is to get a list of what you can grow in shade and what absolutely needs full sun. Some will benefit from the shade, and you can plan your project to allow more sunlight for the area of your yard you will plant everything else. You can plan the rewilding of your yard in accordance with how you want to use it. Some people for example want to keep enough lawn for their kids to play, and that is a great plan. You can have an impact focusing on the perimeter of your yard and going wider in the corners. We’ll publish an article on this soon!
