An Arborist's Legacy

Sustaining a midtown property's wild growth and expanding it's impact. Creating a bungalow rental property for others to experience.

The home’s owner looked at a lot of properties before finding this one. As a nature enthusiast, it was the perfect property for expanding biodiversity and natural growing areas since it has mature trees and parts of the property that have been growing naturally for quite a while.

The previous owner was an arborist. He did most of the transformation himself. He past away a few years ago, and this home is now his legacy shared with all the people who stay here short term.

There are various interesting trees including Aspen, Buckeye, Catalpa, Walnut, Cypress, Juniper, and a few others that are yet to be identified. The backyard is completely managed by nature, growing what it wants to grow. Only the stepping stone walkway is trimmed infrequently.

The front has some lawn, but there are plans to plant an Aspen grove next spring to take over most of the area over time. Mowing was reduced to let more sections of the yard return to natural growth.

The owner is excited to be able to offer this to short term rental guests as a unique home that has brought the wild back to an urban setting. He hopes it will inspire them to manage their properties differently.
